When is any of this anything new?

It seems like every season it's a 'rebuilding season', respect is low if any at all, some hopes and sparks, then, BAM last place...maybe a sneaky playoff clutch..

This team we are currently watching, stanely cup winning team? Probublay not. I'll take my lumps as an Islander fan, I'm pretty much used to it for the past few years now.

But, I feel that this team is good. Like every other team, we experience slumps, it'll subside. We have a bunch of talented guys and when they fuse well, we can win. If we pick up our slack and go head strong to at least the All Star break, then maybe theres a rainbow at the end of this frustrating time.

More and more, watching this team brings to mind the image of an expansion team struggling to keep its head above water by playing tight defensive hockey because it can't score worth a damn. The fact that it's the Islanders in this position (yet again) makes it pretty difficult to get excited about this team. I don't think a single move Snow's made has worked out for this team. One wonders what Neil Smith could have done over the last year and half. He certainly couldn't have done much worse than Snow has done.
Right the ship that way and once this team starts showing potential (like the current Chicago Blackhawk team) than perhaps go out there and land that big name.
Chicago got those players by finishing last or close to last in the league every year for the past 5 or 6 years. I'm not sure this franchise can afford to do that and survive.

I feel this team will contend every game thanks to Dipietro and a hard working team, but in the end we wont win, or we wont go far in the playoffs

as far as rebuilding, did we ever get the chance to rebuild? It seems we traded all our prospects who are now tearing it up for other teams in the league

Snow will make me a very happy man if we can get maybe 5 or 6 additional 1st and 2nd round picks in a very good draft this year, and maybe some prospects, I have been an Isles fan since 91-92, 92-93 was the only real joy I ever experienced with this team, I have been suffering since 93-94, I can suffer for a few more years of rebuilding if there is a light at the end of the tunnel

That's why I am pushing for stockpiling as many picks as you can at the deadline Paul.

Isles already have a franchise goaltender. They have some good other pieces. If you can draft a superstar in the next draft or two and perhaps another all-start, I think it could form a good nucleus and then you get your superstar the UFA route. Isles have enough to compete until then.

I agree, this team is just bad, you cant blame Nolan because he doesnt have much to work with

I hope Snow completley strips this team of everyone besides Hunter, Dipetro and Okposo, if we can get some good prospects/picks by the trade deadline, I will look forward to the teams future

You're bang on buddy.....those are the only three untouchables.

And I need to colonize Mars.

But of course. They go hand in hand.

With those 3, I would definately keep Gervais,Campoli,Witt,Martinek and Bergenheim...

I would add Silinger and Comeau (surprised?)

Also Sutton for weight and height stats

Rebuilding is the best option, no doubt about it. We have the players to move to get it started already to get some picks and young players (plus our own first rounder which will most likely be pretty high). If look at what teams got for older players got at the deadline last year we could get ALOT for guys like Comrie and Tank. I think the big thing is people get scared when they hear "rebuild". This isn't the old days where it takes 10 years to rebuild your team. Look at Phili this year and Pitt a few years ago. Same goes for Chicago this season. Rebuilding, if done right, is a two to three year process in todays NHL and is the right move at this point.

I dont think we would get a whole lot for Gervais, Martinek or Bergenheim, and for what we would get in return, I would just keep them, Campoli is someone who I think alot of teams would be interested in thinking he might pan out into a 1 or 2 defenseman, and for what we might get in return, I would say trade him, for some reason or another I dont have a good feeling about Campolis future on the Island, I dont know why, and Witt I would definetly trade as he is 33 and he could get at least a 1st rounder and maybe a prospect at the deadline which is what Washington got for him a few years back
