Alexei Yashin settled for less money by signing with Lokomotiv Yaroslav, according to an interview posted only hours ago by .

In the interview, Yashin revealed that every other offer he received was for more money, but said that he chose to sign with Lokomotiv for what Sport Express calls "a modest salary" because of family reasons, as well as his familiarity with the team and the area.

Uh, all the Yashin bashers may be begging for his return come mid February when it's a cold, wintery Tuesday night at the Coliseum and we're trailing the Phoenix Coyotes (insert any obscure team) by a couple of goals!!!

Um, No Effing way, with bells and cherries on top too.

And you can quote me.

“He’s going to go there and have a great year. We’ll see where we are 10 months from now. Right now the city is electric, everyone is excited, the arena will be packed and Alexei will play hard.

Viagra maybe?

Very nice guy makes huge, HUGE mistake of

a:wanting money owed by Ottawa paid to him
b:wanting out of Ottawa after unending hatefest
c:not transforming himself into superhuman or Mario Lemieux for his huge contract
d:not turning Blake into Gretzky
e:not scoring at will
f:not dealing with the unending hatred of him on LI, the Canadien media and the role of captain placed on him better

He was saught by Detroit and instead went home after a few years of being hated.

So he went home, where he wasn't hated or wasn't guaranteed to be treated like dirt for being Yashin and being human for taking idiot Emperor Wang's stoooooopid contract offer.

Wish him well in Locamotiv and wish him peace. Now onto who we'll hate until kingdom come this season on the NY Islanders' roster

The Isles seemed to do pretty good without Yashin last year.

It's not about "bashing" Yashin, it's about making an observation based on fact. For the most part, he stunk. What did we win because of him being here? Nothing. Guess what, we won't do any worse. Yashin had his moments but relative to his position on the team (#1 center, highest paid, captain, etc...), he never came close to living up to expectations. I don't see how anyone can argue that he did OK or good enough to deserve to still be here.

what a great $4.5M first line center, though......shame he made too much money because of our owner. He woulda made a good mid priced to high scoring foreward.

No way Alt is going to Russia. Might be a good time for young male Islander fans to start circling the lower bowl at NVMC, there is one hot cougar on the prowl!

Wait, are you calling Carol Alt "hot"?

Maybe BEFORE she hooked up with the Schmata. But now? She's a used dust rag. Ewww.

I've said it a hundred times. If Yashin is making under 5 million and isn't captain, I keep him. He would still be a good 2nd line center or LW for either of the top 2 lines depending on the other forwards.

He may have made WAY too much money because of our owner, but odds are he would have made too much money anywhere he signed. If we gave him 9 a year, someone else would have given him 7 per at the time. Another thing, say the Isles would have signed him to a normal 4 year/24 million contract or something, odds are he would have walked a year or 2 ago as a free agent anyway.

And once again what gets disregarded is the fact that, through his actions in Ottawa, he DEMANDED elite money...claiming he was an elite player...to the point where he bailed on a contract. Sorry, this was not Martin Lapointe, who simply took what was offered him after a tremendous walk year. Actions speak louder than words, and Yashin's actions speak that he wouldn't lower himself to honor a contract for money that was not equivalent to the elite, star players. When you make that statement you better come close to living up to the claim. Yashin didn't...and THAT'S why he's villified.

Have said it a million times, I like Alexei Yashin the man...seems like a wonderful, charitable guy. But Yashin the player, and Yahsin the man who dishonored himself and demanded top dollar??? See ya.

And for me, he's a 3-4 million dollar player...TOPS. Decent point totals, while not bringing a single other element to the ice (on or off) that leads to success. Given his rep, and what a team would've had to have dealt with PR/media wise by signing him I dare say that number goes down to well below 3 mill. So he bolted, propoganda of wanting to go back to Russia aside. I mean, does anybody (well, anybody with an objective mind) honestly believe this. Yes, the money in Russia may have been a bit less...but IMO the difference wasn't enough to have Yashin feel it was worth all the BS he would have gone through if he stayed in the NHL.

I'm kinda dissapointed. I was looking forward to Poti-at-MSG -esque boo's from the Coliseum faithful every time Yashin took the ice against us.

Mishandled by the coaching staff? What?? If anything , this team was mishandled by Yashin. He "got hurt", came back, looked miserable and unhappy, claimed "injury" some more, took a 20 game vacation, came back, looked even slower then before vacation, couldnt pick up his game, got benched, end of story. Shut up you whiney bitch. David Kolb you should be ashamed of yourself. I wish you would go to Russia with him.

Money Money Money Money.... everybody's got a price.

Yashin you suck. Dont ever come back.

Dead on. Mishandled? This team gave him every chance to try to live up to his contract. He could be the greatest guy in the world but, that still doesn't take away that he robbed this franchise blind. Jason Blake took his new opportunity here and exceled, gaining himself a nice UFA contract, Yashin became the antethesis of Jason Blake.
