Before NYISLES gets upset, just letting you know this is going to stay here a few days...

David Kolb

Mishandled by the coaching staff? What?? If anything , this team was mishandled by Yashin. He "got hurt", came back, looked miserable and unhappy, claimed "injury" some more, took a 20 game vacation, came back, looked even slower then before vacation, couldnt pick up his game, got benched, end of story. Shut up you whiney bitch. David Kolb you should be ashamed of yourself. I wish you would go to Russia with him.

Money Money Money Money.... everybody's got a price.

Yashin you suck. Dont ever come back.

No way Alt is going to Russia. Might be a good time for young male Islander fans to start circling the lower bowl at NVMC, there is one hot cougar on the prowl!

I was thinking the same thing. Keep this team away from that God damned succubus.

I'm not really surprised by this other than he did it so quickly ---its only 7-20 , someone in need of whatever they'd see in Yashin to aid their team may have offered him something decent between now and oct

Forgive me, but how can you say it's about the money when the financial terms haven't been disclosed? Maybe he took less to play at home because he has enough money to never work another day in his life. If you spent the past 10 years in a foreign country away from the family and then was humilatingly fired, you might want to go home for a bit too...

Yash was signed to a contract any of us would have signed. Stop flogging him for a terrible contract offer from the Isles. He wasn't a superstar, but played hard (for him) and hurt and NEVER complained. People here are vicious.

Fischler

To be perfectly honest, I never thought it would happen this way – with my buddy, Alexei Yashin, exiling himself to Russia.

Surely, I figured – and I assume his agents, Mark Gandler and Todd Diamond did likewise – that the once-so-promising forward would find at least one out of 29 teams interested in signing him.

Since he was being paid off by the Islanders, his new asking price couldn’t have been that high. But in the end, his reps must have felt that the low-balling offers were too subterranean to suit them, or Alexei.

So, off he goes on a one-year contract to Locomotiv (Yaroslavl) of the Russian League.

Good luck to him.

If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, you won’t find a more perfect gentleman, than Comrade Yashin.

Maybe he was too nice, who knows?

About an hour before his signing in Russkieland, a Devils fan I know figured he’d make a good fit in New Jersey.

His agents feel he’ll make a better fit overseas.

“Alexei has a history with Yaroslavl, having played several games for them during the Lockout,” says Diamond.

“He feels comfortable with them, having a North American coach (Paul Gardner) and a former teammate, Randy Robitaille, being there as well next season.”

Gandler had told me early on that a few NHL teams were interested and that he wanted to wait until the first feeding frenzy had ended to gauge what the market was like. And now we know; it was more frenzied in Vladimir Putin’s province than here.

“Locomotiv came after him very strongly,” says Diamond.

“He’s going to go there and have a great year. We’ll see where we are 10 months from now. Right now the city is electric, everyone is excited, the arena will be packed and Alexei will play hard.”

Still, I figured that Yash would have wanted to stay on the Eastern Seaboard, close to his luscious gal pal, Carol Alt.

Well, you know what they say: “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

The Maven’s Prediction: Yashin will have a helluva year in Russia and be back in the NHL by September 2008.

Uh, all the Yashin bashers may be begging for his return come mid February when it's a cold, wintery Tuesday night at the Coliseum and we're trailing the Phoenix Coyotes (insert any obscure team) by a couple of goals!!!

And I'll take my bow

April 28, 2007

"I gotta agree that I don't believe this is at all about money...but I do also believe that Yashin and Gandler are absolutely worried that if Alexei is bought out that there won't be a single other team that will offer him a contract of any significance and he'll wind up playing in a place called

Carol may like caviar but I don't think she'll be thrilled with the relocation."

Two questions........

1. Why do so many of Gandler's clients wind up in Russia?

2. Can't Yashin re-sign with the Islanders after 1 year?
