I give him a 2. Mainly because he got schooled on the Zhitnik and Smyth deal. I'm sorry, but you don't set your organiztion years back to try and gamble a player who is overrated and over 30, plus this team was not a cup contending team and Garth was in no position to make that deal. Should of signed Blake to that deal before last season. 4 years 3.3 mill was it? Zednik Kozlov and MAB(yet to be determined) are his couple of small highlights. yup, it's going to take years to replace O'Marra, Nilsson and a mid-1st round pick who never wouldn't have seen a minute of NHL ice-time for at least 3 years. Did the trade make sense? Probably not, but it wasn't so bad that it set the organization back "years". As for Zhitnik, that was a pure salary/bad player dump. What do you think Snow should have received for an overpaid underachieving defensman who was making mistake after mistake on a nightly basis? Blake for 4 years would have been as bad as Blake for 5. And what offer are you talking about anyway? Blake was set on testing free agency, 3.3 per for 4 years would not have made him change his mind. Zednik didn't work because of unforeseen family issues. That was a good text book deadline move. |

That was a good text book deadline move. You don't think losing O'marra, Nilsson and 14th pick last draft? will not set us back years? Why do you think this team is never capable of winning a round in the playoffs for 15 years? I know you want to look at the brighter side, but i question your hockey knowledge if you don't think this sets us back. Zhitnik should of been a deadline deal. The Flyers sent him to ATL for Braydon Coburn, a young great defensive prospect we could of badly used. Blake wanted a deal done before last season, you don't remember him bitching about it mid season? it was under 15 mill and for atleast 4 years, that's all i remember. Garth Snow is not a good GM...yet |

Losing draft picks hurts a team that drafts well. Losing draft picks does not hurt us......it helps our bottom line. I think after Maloney was fired, the Isles should have been able to opt out of the draft altogether and instead hold a cup out, walking table to table and gather whatever players GM's would drop in said cup......much like the gentlemen I pass by UCLA every day. Maybe......Wang can get a higher cap amount in return for helping the dignity of professional hockey all over the globe by opting out? Maybe Snow can draft hockey players internationally.....going to Beijing and getting hockey players there who would play hard for pennies on the dollar (hopefully not using lead pain on the jerseys or date rape drugs coating the water bottles)? Or by giving green cards out to players from Mexico who achieve scoring and game totals we set up? Maybe we should get a legit GM and end committee management, leaving Wang out of any future decision in hockey matters for good? Henrik Zetterberg is the best overall talent in the league in the 6th round. We can't get a first rounder to play on the top three lines for more than a game at a time. It leads me to recite an old adage from childhood: "fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, three times, four times, five times, six times, seven times.......and so on......give you the deed to the richest parcel of available land in the free world for free." Smyth was a great trade on 29 teams. Islander fans are so conditioned to hope for a prospect to save us BECAUSE OUR TEAM WON'T that they lament losing Ryan O'Marra for Ryan Smyth. A likely total 23 NHL goals over both careers is a far more horrid loss than getting Ryan Smyth before he even left. One wonders if we get the GM's we deserve. But then again, we have to give Snow a chance.....like every bad draft pick and coach and jersey and idea coming from this organization? I say the NHL put this franchise with foster care until a suitable owner can be found by the courts. |

I'll give him a 6 or maybe even a 7. He has tried to do some good things but he is in a horrible market and that severly handicaps him. He seems like he has a good hockey sense about him and works his a** off. He did a good job in this off season and probally isn't taken seriously around the league by other GM's. He has turned a team in a horrible market from wet poop to hard poop. |

Snow traded Zhitnik to Philly for Meyer and a 3rd round pick which was used in this past draft. Meyer has been on waivers from both us and Phoenix while chances are the 3rd pick the Islanders took in 07 won't amount to anything (going by the Islanders recent history of draft choices). Then Holmgren trades Zhitnik to Atlanta for Braydon Coburn who is 6 foot 5 220 pounds. Is 22 years old and playing extremely solid defense for the Flyers. Why were the Flyers able to get a good player for Zhitnik and Snow got **** back for the same player? To Snow's credit he did get back a 5th pick from Philly and Randy Robitaille who became the Islanders #1 Center last season for Mike York. York was just garbage for the Islanders. These are the type of things one needs to take into account and measure whether or not Snow is doing well or not. |

If he would turn around and trade MAB now again , he wont get a Grebs caliber prospect |

Hey Engblom just gave Snow a complement and he is right. People go crazy about giving DP a 15 year deal, but here is the side that no one talks about. What Snow did was just established the bar for the salary of the best player on the team at $4.5M per season. So if Isles ever get prospects who start tearing it up (that's the part Snow needs to work on), than the bar is already set. You look at TB, and 45% of their salary is on the big 3 who produce about 40% of their offfensive production. This would be ok, but the team is losing. Ottawa is in the same problem and Anaheim is almost there and Detroit will be there when Zetterberg gets there. It does bring out the downside though to Snow and that is, it is so critically imperative to build a team from within, because at least you can have a bunch of years before you have to worry about these issues if you build that way. |
