Some seriously nutty talk here. do you think any team out there would even consider giving hunter 5 years / $20 Mil? Blake doubled Hunter's output in points & goals. Blake can also do something called SKATING which hunter unfortunately can't do. I like Hunter and he does try hard, but he clearly doesn't have the wheels and skill set Blake does. Especially for our team which desperately lacks speed through the neutral zone. Blake was much more important than Hunter ever was. Blake never even took a shift off, let alone a game while Hunter at times was invisible out there, kinda streaky at times. Say all you want but IMO Blake was the best player on the Isles this year. One can argue DP, but even Blake got Yashin hot for a while there, which as we know is an extremely hard thing to do.

Again, Hunter's a good role player and hard worker, but clearly not in Blakes ballpark til he learns how to skate & becomes way more consistent.

Ok so by your rationale all the game is about is scoring goals & skating. Knocking guys off the puck, going down to block a slap shot, fighting like a madman in the corners has NO value whatsoever, right?

Trent Hunter is twice the hockey player Jason Blake is.

Skating is the most crucial skill a hockey player needs to have. What's the old adage, "skating is 75% of the game." Mucking and grinding are fine but certainly not as valuable as skating.

There's a reason why Blake is now making 5x what Hunter is making.

You're right - because Toronto is run by a bunch of morons.

I'll take Trent Hunter over Blake any day of the week & twice on gamedays.

I would also take Hunter over Blake anytime.

Yeah but that has absolutely nothing to do with Trent Hunter or his game. Nor is it the end of the world as half of this board has been screaming for the past 24 hours.

Nobody ever picked on Hunter all I said was him and Blake were the only 2 guys that worked on a consiustent basis and you got all upset. And if you think the departure of these 5 players and Yashin being bought out hasn't hurt this team you are sorely mistaken. This has set the Isles back big time.

The original quote was based on effort and intangibles (which everyone loves to spout when it comes to Smyth but not Hunter).
