These people no nothing Gomez score over 20 once and got 7 a year for 7 years Penner scored over 20 once and got 4.25 a year Vanek scored over 20 twice and got over 7 million a year So 2.9 is not so bad. |

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU WHY IS IT THAT THE ISLES SIGN PLAYERS AND WE OVER PAY AND THEN ANY OTHER CLUB (RANGERS)SIGN PLAYERS FOR ALOT BUT THERE DEAL IS ALWAYS GOOD.THAT ESKIMO GOMEZ 7MIL TO PRODUCE 60 POINTS AND EVEN DRURY 60 POINTS.THE RANGERS ARE THE NEXT KNICKS BALLON THAT CAP FOR AWILE WHILE THE ISLES THROW A BOAT LOAD OF MONEY AT (SPEZZA,OR HEATLY,VINNY FROM TAMPAOR DO A LOWE SIGN RFA AND THERE ARE ALOT OF THEM NEXT YEAR.TIMES ARE CHANGING IN THE NHL.NHL GETS THAT DEAL DONE WITH ESPN 08/09 SEASON THE CAP WILL GO UP AGAIN.LIKE SNOW SAID PATIENCE. |

Actually, what's truly ridiculous is to compare Ruslan Fedotenko to Gomez and Vanek in any way, shape or form. Might want to look at the overall point totals and 360 degree contribution to success those two have provided their teams...plus, Vanek's abd Penner's $$$ were the result of having to match an outlandish offer...which is a whole different ballgame. Fedotenko for 2.9 is a travesty...but that's what it took to get him here...in fact, that's the kind of thing it takes for ANYBODY of ANY value to come here right now. |

Vanek has 6 playoff goals in 2 years Look, it's really not worth the bother to have to defend Gomez or Vanek in relation to Ruslan Fedotenko...but Scott Gomez has 65 points in 97 playoff games and has been an integral member of a Cup winning consistent winner in New Jersey. Vanek is a young player who's just hit stardom. Fedotenko had a tremendous playoff goal-scoring wise, but in the other 31 playoff games he's played in he has 1 goal and 3 points. And before you go granting him sainthood as the reason they won you might want to look at his teammates stats, including "Bulin. Anyway, you can twist the argument all you want...Ruslan Fedotenko is nowhere near a 2.9 million dollar player...and in short can't hold Scott Gomez's or Tomas Vanek's jockstraps. |

"More to the point -- why on earth doesn't an incentive-laden deal make more sense for this guy than guaranteeing him a payday regardless of his efforts?" Because the Islanders were desperate to sign anyone at the time. So they overpaid but did take a pretty good player out of the deal. And the contract is for 1 year. Frankly, anything ESPN has to say about hockey is easily ignored. |

what is Fedotenko worth, about 2 million? So the Isles overpaid by about a million for 1 season. No big deal. Nitpicking if you ask me. And go find me a player who isn't coming off of a serious injury or a series of injuries who will accept an incentive laden deal. |
